Reunion and other IHHS Class of '80 News - all in ONE spot!

Happy New Year to IHHS Class of '80 and friends!

Reunion Update: we still have our venue being held for us for Saturday, August 7, 2021.

BUT - because of the continued uncertainty regarding travel, gatherings, vaccine roll out, etc - we are holding off on any definitive plans right now.

If you can, please hold the August 7 date in your calendar. Most likely, we will be in touch in early spring with an update.

In the meantime, please encourage classmates who have NOT checked into the IHHSClassof80 website to create an account and log in, so that we will be able to easily contact everyone! (find out who still needs to log in on the "missing classmates" page of the website.)

And...we would love to hear more from you, so take a look at your profile page in order to update / add photos now!

The Class of '80 has DONE IT!

We turned the LEMON of the reunion postponement into LEMONADE as we turned our tickets into money for folks in need!

We have EXCEEDED Tom Carroll's challenge goal to donate $1980 from the class of 1980 to the Cincinnati Freestore Foodbank. We have gathered just over $2,200. Thank you for your generosity during this uncertain time.

Our treasurer, Janet Walker Collins, sent a check for the food bank. If you "missed the boat" and would like to donate to the food bank, you may do so at the Freestore Foodbank website,

Thanks again, stay safe, and we WILL be together again in 2021.

40th Reunion Rescheduled

It should come as no surprise to you that our 40th reunion must be postponed until next summer, . The committee had put off the decision until now, hoping that a miracle might happen and that things could go on as planned. But, given the ongoing uncertainty and the current restrictions on large gatherings (no dancing, no standing, only household members sitting together...), we had no choice but to move the date.

So, in true Class of '80 fashion, we are going to try to make lemonade out of this lemon:

So... The Lemonade:

As Cort Stein says: "Our class can rock this reunion just as hard in 2021 as in 2020. No big deal!" And Cort has secured the same venue, without penalty, for our new reunion date: Saturday, August 7, 2021. With over a year's notice, you've got no excuse but to save the date, so don't let any of your children get married that weekend! ;-)

Lisa Oths quotes Blondie, saying "One way, or another, we're gonna find ya, we're gonna getcha getcha getcha get ya"... This postponement gives us one more year to find and lasso in the 120 classmates whom we have either lost touch with or who have just not checked into the website. From Addington to Zimmeri - we want EVERYONE to have logged into the site so that they can always find Class of 1980 news at the click of a button.

More positives: Bob Heynen says you have an extra year to get your song requests to him for the most killer playlist in reunion history, and Lori Davison says you've can use this extra time to get outside in a socially-distanced hike with her before August 2021.

And now for the REAL LEMONADE:

We want to thank Tom Carroll who encouraged the committee to turn this postponement into something positive by helping those affected by the devastating economic consequences that have come about from the pandemic. As such, the committee decided to give Class of '80 reunion ticket holders an opportunity to turn your paid reunion tickets into a donation to help The Freestore Foodbank, the Tri-state’s leading hunger relief organization that has been doing important work for our hometown during this hard time.

Janet Collins (Walker) says: We chose a local Cincinnati organization that’s been hit hard by the crisis. Corporate food donations are down, and fund-raising efforts have been cancelled - all while demand has sky-rocketed.  The foodbank spent $1.5m on food during a 3-month period where they would normally have spent $300,000.  What’s more, in the past few months, 75% of the families being served are coming to the food lines for the very first time.

We encourage classmates who have purchased tickets for the 2020 reunion, and who have the means, to opt to have Janet send their ticket money to Freestore Foodbank on behalf of the IHHS Class of 80. And Tom has challenged us, as a class, to give up at least  $1980 to the foodbank.  I have no doubt that we will meet that challenge.

As promised, you do have the option to transfer your ticket money to a 2021 ticket.

Additionally, we understand that some of you may need to request a refund.

Please let us know which option you choose by going now to: Your 2020 Reunion Money at this website. Just a simple, confidential click will inform Janet as to what to do with your ticket money. We will be sending our Class of '80 check to the Foodbank on June 15.

Stay strong and stay safe so that we may see each other in August of 2021!

Your Reunion Committee: Lori D, Bob H, Lisa O, Cort S, and Janet WC
